1. Sairee Beach
First up is Sairee Beach. It is the biggest and most popular beach on the island. With easy road access and no entrance or parking fees, it's a great place to spend the day.
During the day, you can enjoy a variety of activities such as tree swings, beach volleyball, sunbathing, and snorkelling on the reef. And at night, take in the stunning sunset views while enjoying drinks and dinner at one of the many beachside bars and restaurants.
2. John Suwan Viewpoint
Next on our list is John Suwan Viewpoint, the best viewpoint on the island. A 20-minute hike to the top offers a panoramic view that is simply breathtaking. Access is easy with decent road access, and no entrance fees. Just make sure to take the middle trailhead to get to the viewpoint.
3. Freedom Beach
For a quieter beach experience, visit Freedom Beach, just a short 10-minute drive from Sairee Beach. Though it's smaller in size, its beauty and scenic vibes make up for it. With fine white sandy beaches, clear blue water, and a backdrop of palm trees and mangroves, it's a must-see location on your list of things to do in Koh Tao.
There is an entry fee of 50 THB per person. You can stay as long as you want and there is a bar & restaurant on the beach.
4. Shark Bay
If you're feeling adventurous, visit Shark Bay, named for the frequent blacktip reef sharks that enter the bay. Don’t worry! they're harmless, it's important to give them space while snorkelling. Also, keep an eye out for green turtles and other marine life that frequent the bay.
The best way to access Shark Bay would be by boat, but some of our friends have swam or kayak across so if you are a tough cookie and want to give that a try then please share your experience with us. We’d love to know.
5. Love Koh Tao Viewpoint
Love Koh Tao viewpoint is one of the most popular things to do on the island. It boasts panoramic views overlooking Tanote Bay and the east coast of the island. Access is easy with good road access and a large car park at the top of the hill.
There's an entry fee of 20 Baht to take photos, but it's waived if you purchase something to eat or drink. It's a fantastic spot to watch the sunrise and sunset while enjoying your freshly squeezed fruit juice.
Be sure to snap a few photos with the colourful welcome sign and the famous @lovekohtao sign.
